Hey dancers and welcome back to From the Top! Today’s post is very exciting for me because today I am taking you along with me to teach my class this week! That’s right! You guys will be with me every step of the way, from the moment I leave my house to the moment I arrive to class! This week, I’m teaching my adult class, which is always a ton of fun! So, pack your bags, everyone! We’re going DANCIN’!
“Lexi ‘The Packrat’ Jenkins”!
The first thing I have to do is pack my bag with all of the things I’ll need for an evening of teaching. As I mentioned in my “Dance Bag Essentials” post earlier this year, I have two different dance bags. I have my big, Nike duffle bag that I use for my long teaching nights and performance days, and then I have my small backpack that I use on my shorter teaching nights. Tonight’s class is only one hour long (praise the Lord) so, since I will only be there for an hour tonight, I’ll use my backpack. Now, this bag may be small, but it really packs a punch and I can fit so much in it!
When I teach, I usual carry the following:
– My wireless speaker and its charger
– The shoes I will need
– Choreography journal, which holds all of my choreo and my class itinerary
– A Sargento snack pack (gotta to have my snacks)
– My water bottle
“Dress To Impress”
Next, I have to change into my dancing clothes! I never go too snazzy with my outfits because after all, I am about to…you know…sweat. However, I always like to choose my outfits with fashionable intent because when you look good, you feel good and when you feel good, you dance GREAT! So, today I chose a denim button down shirt from Target, black Champion brand leggings, also from Target, a simple blue cami from Forever 21 and black Champion Brand sneakers (not pictured). Now we’re ready to head out!
“Pre-Class Warmup”
Even though I’ll be stretching with my students during class, I still like to have a moment of alone time to unwind my muscles. So, once I get in and settled, I then throw on my favorite playlist and get my muscles going with a nice, easy stretch.
“Fueling Up!”
By the time it’s time for me to teach, I’m usually kind of hungry. This is where my snack comes in handy! Today I chose the Sargento balanced snacks! If you don’t have any fruit or nut allergies, I highly suggest giving these babies a try! They make a great snack and they don’t get you too full or leave feeling empty! And even though, this sounds VERY commercial like, Sargento is not sponsoring this post. I’m just a huge foodie! Next, I make myself a small cup of hot green tea. This stuff is the dream remedy for an evening of yelling 8 counts! It keeps my throat soothed and helps me keep my voice afterwards!
After that, my class has arrived and I’m already to teach! We always have such a fun time and I honestly couldn’t ask for a better way to spend my evening than teaching these beautiful souls! If you’re a dance teacher, what is the one thing that you do before class that is a staple in your routine? Share yours with us in the comment below! I hope you guys enjoyed tagging along with me tonight and I’ll see you all next week!
Keep Dancing
