Are You Ready For Your Close Up? Tips On How To Be Picture Perfect For Your First or Next Photoshoot!

Welcome back dancers! Are you ready for your close up? If so, GREAT because today we are going to be talking all about how to prepare for a photoshoot! This is easily one of the fun perks of being a professional dancer! No matter if you’re a dancer or a choreography, you’ll always have to have headshots and you’ll always have to keep those headshots updated as your physical appearance changes with time. So, if you’re going on your very first dance photoshoot, here are a few things you can do to help you prepare for the big day!

Tip #1
“Know Your Photographer’s Vision”
When doing a photoshoot, it’s always good to know the location of the photoshoot ahead of time (obviously) and what artistic direction your photographer wants to go in for the look of the photoshoot. So, sometime before the day of the shoot, contact the photographer and discuss what vibe you’ll be going for in the photoshoot.

Tip #2
“Set Out All Of Your Looks”
Now this is the fun part! You will more than likely have outfit changes throughout your photoshoot to give your photos versatility. With that being said, make sure you pick out about 3 to 4 different outfits that compliment the vibe and location of your photoshoot. Make sure every item fits you properly, nothing too tight or too loose, to accurately show your shape/physic and not add the appearance of extra weight that is not there since the camera already adds a few more pounds as it is. Also, you may want to have outfits with assorted color schemes instead of wearing just one color throughout the entire shoot. All these things will ensure that you’ll look your best and when you look your best, you feel your most confident!

Tip #3
“Hair and Makeup That Will Last”
However way you decide to do your hair, it is always wise to wear it in a style that is durable and can stand the elements. As for makeup, using all waterproof makeup products is definitely the way to go when it comes to photoshoots because it won’t melt off your face halfway through the day. Also, using makeup setting spray is a huge life saver and the icing on the “Stay all day” cake! Always keep things like a brush, rubber bands, bobby pins, and a makeup bag on hand the day of your shoot for any kind of touch ups that you may need.

Tip #4
“Strike A Pose!”
Another fun part of preparing for a photoshoot is working on your poses! One of the best ways to get familiar with your angles, your good sides and your bad sides is to play around with poses in the mirror at home before your photoshoot. Find all of your good face and body angles, if you’re doing dance poses, think about and practice the poses that you’re going to do. Always keep your face relaxed and be natural. If you’re wanting a “happy shot”, think about something that genuinely makes you happy. If you want a serious, model-esque shot, envision that you’re in Paris, shooting for vogue!! Dramatic, huh? It’s okay! Feel free to play around with your looks and don’t over think it! Just have fun!

Have a great time on your first or next photo shoot! Go out there and work what ya Mama gave ya! I’ll see you guys next week and remember…

Keep Dancing!
