Goooooood Friday Afternoon, From The Top Family and welcome back to another blog post! Today we are going to talk about four reasons (out of MANY) to why it is so important to still take dance classes even as a dance teacher. As I mentioned in yesterday’s IGTV video, though some of us have now made the transition from full time student to full time teacher, it is still a tremendous joy to revisit your training roots by taking classes of your own and these key points listed below are just some of the reasons why! Let’s get right into it, shall we?
Reason #1
It Keeps You In The Know
Taking classes is an absolutely perfect way to stay up to date with everything new that is circulating in the dance world right now. The dance industry is ever changing and there are always new things to discover. New moves, new techniques, new styles, you name it! By getting out there and taking a few a classes in your spare time, not only will you pick up some new skillsets yourself, but you’ll even find new inspiration for the upcoming pieces that you may be creating as well! You’ll be gaining more knowledge personally, as well as discovering new ways to keep your own classes challenging and fun. It’s a win-win situation!
Reason #2
It’s Refreshing
Sometimes when you’re always the one in front of the class, creating and pouring into others, it can take a lot out of you both mentally and physically. However, taking the time to be a student and having your moments where you are being poured into can really break that minotiny! Even though we love our jobs of sharing our knowledge and uplifting our students, it is still extremely important to still be uplifted. So, send your creative brain on a little vacation and be open to receive some of the energy that you so often give. Believe me when I say that you deserve it.
Reason #3
It Keeps You In Practice
No matter what genre(s) of dance you have trained in throughout the years. Whether it be hip hop or tap, ballet or jazz, or maybe even all of the above, the one thing we all have in common is that we have worked HARD to get where we are today. The saying that rings extremely true with any skill set is, “If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.” and personally, I don’t plan on losing a single thing. This is where taking classes periodically comes into play. Attending dance classes can keep you in practice and keep your technique completely intact, without running the risk of getting rusty. Now that’s what I’m talking about!
Reason #4
It Continues To Push You As A Dancer
And lastly, continuing to take dance classes as a dance teacher does the ultimate justice to your career and that is, it continues to push you as a dancer. As I always say, as dancers, we are all constantly still learning. No matter how long we’ve been in the industry or how long we’ve been training, dance is a profession that holds an abundant amount of knowledge and there is so much to discover, still. So, let’s continue to dive into that discovery and add more knowledge to ourselves as dancers, so we can continue to pass that knowledge down to the next generation.
Thank you all so much for hanging out with us today! As always, we wish you a fantastic weekend and remember…
Keep dancing!
