Hey there, dancers and welcome back to another From The Top 2021 music countdown! Today we’re taking a look at some of our music favorites for contemporary classes! That’s right, in this post you will find just a few of the songs that we just couldn’t stop playing in our contemporary class, as well as universal favorites that took the dance world by storm. 1. Driver’s License- Olivia Rodrigo
First up on the list is one we probably all saw coming! “Driver’s License” by Olivia Rodrigo was the chart topping hit that took the world, and contemporary classes, by storm in late 2020 – Early 2021. A TikTok and Reels phenomenon, Aurora made her hit song “Runaway” as a part of a school project years ago. Little did she know that the song would catch with great popularity via a viral trend. Perfect for class combos, performances and class warm-ups, “Runaway” holds an ethereal energy that pulls you in from the first chord. In short, this song is the perfect fit for your next class!
3. Heartbreak Anniversary- Giveon
Next on the list is a song that had thousands of people vibing…and crying. “Heartbreak Anniversary” by Giveon was sure to make it to a spot on this list because not only was it a phenomenon, but it oozed originality. Giveon has a voice unlike any other on radio today, which adds an outstanding presence to any song he creates. “Heartbreak Anniversary” has a smooth melody and steady beat that makes it the perfect combo and cool down song for any contemporary class.
4. Solar Power – Lorde
After a four year long hiatus, she is back! Lorde just recently dropped her latest album and it’s title track “Solar Power” is definitely giving us major contemporary vibes! An ode to summertime freedom, this catchy melodic tune is a one size fits all. Use it for warm-ups, combos or performances, this song is a perfect choice for your next class!
5. Meet Me At Our Spot – THE ANXIETY, WILLOW, Tyler Cole
And last, but certainly not least on our countdown is a song that just can’t help but lift your spirits when it plays. “Meet Me At Our Spot” by THE ANXIETY, WILLOW and Tyler Cole is a happy go lucky tune about being free with the people you hold dear. This song rose to extreme popularity this year and with no reason as to why. Simply put, it’s addicting. Add this crowd favorite to class warm up or cool down, and you’re sure to begin or end your class on a fresh, light note!
