Our 2021 Music Favorites For Jazz

Happy Friday, From The Top Family and welcome back to another blog post! We are now officially 4 months out from the new year and that means our yearly countdown of favorites is officially on! One of our most popular countdowns being that of our favorite music that we love for some of our favorite dance genres! With every year comes new and fresh music from artists we know and love, to new artists on the scene that we can’t get enough of. So today, we are beginning our countdown series with our favorite 2021 music favorites for your next Jazz class! The songs mentioned today are just a few of our picks, as we wouldn’t nearly have enough time (or blog space) to list them all. However we do feel that these particular songs are standout choices that will be perfect for all of your jazz needs from performance, to warm-up and across the floor! So without further ado, let’s get shakin’ with the first hit on our list…

  1. “Beggin’” by Maneskin

The first song on our list is a crowd favorite that we just can’t seem to get out of our heads. Originally released in the 1960’s by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, “Beggin” is a classic that has been remixed and remade for literally the last few decades. But it is this rendition by a group called Maneskin that has taken the internet by storm in 2021! With its mid-tempo and strong drumline, “Beggin” is the perfect song to add to your up-beat across the floor routines and even makes for an awesome cardio warm-up song to add to the beginning of your next class!

2. Kiss Me More” by Doja Cat ft. SZA

There have been many talented female rappers that have emerged within the last year or so, but Doja Cat is one of the few that has had the industry on lock! You may remember that her TikTok hit “Say So” made its way to our countdown list last year and this year it’s just the same. Her latest viral hit, “Kiss Me More” ft SZA is the perfect choice for a beginner – intermediate jazz funk routine and can you say kicks across the floor? We’re thinking yes!

3.”Brutal” by Olivia Rodrigo

If you were expecting us to say “Driver’s License”, just wait until our contemporary list. 😉

Olivia Rodrigo, has had one heck of a year! At only 18 years old, Rodrigo has shown the world that though she may be young, she is a force to be reckoned with. Her debut album “Sour” is filled with hit after hit, but “Brutal” is one of our faves. An ode to 2000s rock (think Paramore circa 2009) this song sounds so different compared to it’s radio counterparts and that’s why we love it so much! Add this song

4. “Dinero” by Trinidad Cordona

An upbeat song that is sure to stick with you all day, “Dinero ” by Trinidad Cardona is a spicy hit holds a latin flair that has jazz funk written all over it! From class combo to across the floor, this song definitely will make the perfect addition to your jazz class playlist!

5. “Lost Cause” by Billie Eilish

Taking a chapter from her highly anticipated album, “Happier Than Ever”, Billie Eilish graces our jazz classes once again with her song “Lost Cause”. This jazzy (no pun intended) song with it’s snappy beat gives us modern day “Chicago” vibes that will make for the perfect jazz routine to showcase your character skills. Have some fun with it and add a little backstory to this piece and you’ve got a jazz performance hit!

6. “Sour Candy” by Lady Gaga ft BLACKPINK

Gaga and Blackpink. Need we say more? Coming in as our final addition to this list is the ultra popping dance hit! A song laced with a booming bass line and spunky charm, “Sour Candy” is a great hit for a fierce jazz combo. Wanna up the ante? Add in a pair of heels for this routine and we can guarantee that it will be absolutely exquisite *chef’s kiss*!

And that will conclude our list for this week! We hope you enjoyed coming along with us on this countdown and if you would like to add these songs to your own personal Jazz roster, check out our “All That Jazz” Playlist featuring these songs and more! Link can be found below.

As always, we wish you a fantastic weekend and remember…

Keep dancing!
